Hashgraph Ventures pledged $1 million to support the Hedera Africa Hackathon, helping boost Web3 and AI innovation across Africa. The hackathon is the largest Web3-focused innovation event on the continent and aims to drive digital growth and economic inclusion.
Hashgraph Ventures is a regulated venture capital fund based in Abu Dhabi Global Market. The fund said selected projects from the hackathon will be reviewed for possible investment, depending on their scale, impact, and real-world use cases. The move highlights the fund’s focus on backing early-stage projects working on blockchain, AI, and deep technology.
The initiative is supported by The Hashgraph Association and the Exponential Science Foundation. With additional participation from United Gulf Financial Services, total equity investment commitments linked to the hackathon have now reached $2 million. In addition, a separate $1 million prize pool has been contributed by The Hashgraph Association and Exponential Science Foundation.
Leaders involved in the project said Africa’s growing developer base has strong potential to shape the future of digital finance, AI-driven solutions, and decentralized technologies. The partnership aims to give developers not only funding but also access to global networks, mentorship, and long-term support.
The Hedera Africa Hackathon 2025 ran from August 1 to October 31, bringing together developers, startups, and students from over 20 African cities. Participants created solutions using the Hedera network in areas like finance, healthcare, agriculture, telecom, sustainability, and manufacturing.
